The EU-Japan Centre is pleased to offer a unique opportunity for EU technology SMEs through the Vulcanus in Japan Programme: a free, customized market research report focused on Japan.

This initiative is carried out by a dedicated team of highly qualified European engineering and science intern students based in Japan from October 2025 to March 2026.

Participating in the Market Research by Vulcanus in Japan Programme is an excellent way to:
• Explore the Japanese market potential for your product or service
• Identify key stakeholders and competitors
• Gain insights into user needs, regulatory issues, and technical requirements
• Develop a foundation for a future expansion strategy

All research is supported by expert business coaches and includes both primary and secondary research.

Participation is free of charge. The application deadline is 25 July 2025.

The focus is on companies active in, but not limited to, the following fields: 

  • Artificial Intelligence, Data and Emerging Digital Technologies 
    • Including AI and machine learning, data science, robotics, IoT,
    • extended reality, high-performance computing, quantum technologies,
    • other intelligent or connected systems 
  • Biotechnology, Life Sciences and Sustainable Innovation 
    • Including biotechnology, environmental and industrial biotech,
    • bio-based materials, pharmacy, microbiology, 
    • sustainable product or process development 
       
  • Smart Infrastructure, Mobility and Urban Development 
    • Including civil and building engineering, smart grids, urban mobility,
    • autonomous systems, BIM technologies, 
    • digital solutions for infrastructure and planning 
       
  • Advanced Electronics, Aerospace and Intelligent Systems 
    • Including electronics, embedded technologies, aerospace applications,
    • nuclear engineering, and complex intelligent systems for industrial or societal use 

This list is not exhaustive. We welcome SMEs with innovative technologies and solutions that align with Japan’s industrial or societal priorities.
