About the Report 

When it comes to interim management, many people think of crisis management or corporate restructuring. However, the temporary takeover of business activities by an experienced interim manager can be an interesting and cost-effective solution, especially in the phase of building up or expanding business in the Japanese market. The setup of business in Japan means high engagement and also continuous presence in Japan. An own representation office or subsidiary is often necessary. But this means a quite high investment in the starting phase. This is a point where an interim management can be an interesting temporary solution.

This report aims to give an overview on interim management solutions with a special view on its advantages in the Japanese business environment.

About the Experts

Wilhelm Meemken is the founder and managing director of ECOS. He has more than 30 years of experience in Japanese business and in German-Japanese project work for ministries and companies in both countries. The knowledge of the German-Japanese ECOS team and the extensive network in Japan and Germany make ECOS one of the leading consultancies in Germany in the fields of sustainable business and energy with regard to cooperation with Japan.

Johanna Schilling started at ECOS Consult in January 2000 as a project manager and became Managing Director in 2021. From 1992 to 1998 Johanna Schilling studied Japanese and German at the University of Trier. She also spent a year studying at the Chiba State University in Japan on a scholarship of the Japanese Ministry of Education Culture and the German Academic Exchange Service. She is fluent in Japanese and has special expertise in German-Japanese cooperation in the areas of project management, business consulting, public relations, trade fair participation, event moderation and management training.
