Although the Chubu area only comprises about 10% of the national area in geographical terms, it accounts for 20% of the nationwide share in shipments of manufactured goods and is a catalyst driving Japanese economy with its manufacturing base.
A wide range of industries are present in Chubu such as processing and assembly for the transport sector covering automobiles and aircraft, general machinery such as that for metalwork, electrical machinery and also local industries such as textile and ceramic ware.
Chubu accounts for around 15% of Japan's total GDP.
Long-established industries: electronics, food processing, machinery, metal products manufacturing, chemistry, electric machinery.
