Japan’s industrial drone market is rapidly evolving, driven by the need for innovation in sectors such as logistics, agriculture, and disaster management. As the country faces challenges like labour shortages and an ageing population, drones are becoming essential for automating tasks, improving efficiency, and enhancing safety.
Government initiatives, including updated drone regulations and support for technology adoption, are accelerating market growth.
Japan’s commercial drone market size was valued at approximately 385 billion yen in fiscal year (FY) 2023, and is projected to reach around 905 billion yen by FY 2028. The largest segment of the drone market is drone services, accounting for about 53% of the total market value.
For EU SMEs, this presents a unique window of opportunity. Japan’s regulatory framework, which promotes the integration of drones into critical industries, could align well with EU companies’ expertise in automation and advanced drone technologies. The market is seeing increased demand for specialised drones, offering EU firms a chance to introduce cutting-edge solutions to Japanese needs.
With major Japanese corporations seeking international partnerships, there could also be opportunities for EU SMEs to enter the scene, leveraging their technological know-how to co-develop innovative drone systems.
Several EU companies have entered the Japanese market, including the French company Parrot Drone SAS and the Latvian company Atlas Aerospace Inc.
The webinar is targeted to EU SMEs seeking to enter the Japanese B2B industrial drone market, or further strengthen current positions in Japan.
