The chemical sector is the second largest manufacturing sector in Japan, incorporating a wide range of subsectors from pharmaceutical products to synthetic resin production. After having recovered from the economic stagnation provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic, the industry must now endeavour to take action in order to comply with the government’s goal for carbon neutrality in 2050 as well as adapt to the current rise in raw material and fuel prices.
